Singapore AUDAX 2022 newsletter #001

11.05.2022No CommentsDan

Hi All,

Welcome to the first in an occasional series of email updates, and the revival of the singaporeaudax.com website!

May 2022 – 200k Return to Johor – 6th – 16th May

Congratulations to those who completed the 200k over the weekend – It’s great to finally be hosting Audax rides in Malaysia again. From all the feedback I’ve had so far it sounds like a welcome change from all the traffic lights in Singapore! I’ll be riding next Saturday so hope to see some of you on the road.

As Monday 16th May is a holiday I’ve extended the period to allow riders to ride on Monday too – entry is still open. Enter here – https://forms.gle/BoUoYdAerb7eedc7A

Results can be viewed here – https://imoveit.sg/audax-200km-sg-my-2022 – If you registered and have finished the ride but can’t see your name yet, then your Strava settings may still be set to private thus we can’t access your data. If you update your profile and activity settings we’ll capture the data on the next scrape. If you have verified your settings and your ride still does not appear you may upload your ride data in the dispute form inside the link and the team will review.

Paris-Brest-Paris 2023 – Information night

I will be hosting a PBP 2023 introduction night on Tuesday 24th May around Sims Avenue area – Space is limited so please only sign up to join if you are seriously considering attempting PBP in 2023. I will go through the pre-qualification and qualification processes and talk about my experiences at PBP so you have an idea of what to expect and can learn from my mistakes… There will also be a talk on nutrition. The session will run from 6:30-8:30pm. Please register your interest here – https://forms.gle/9s6h2n9NhbSo5BV88

Medals

It’s been great to meet many of you over the past week at the medal meet ups at Holland Village and the East Coast. I still have 200+ medals that have not been collected. If you have paid for a medal I will hold it for you until you collect it. If you paid for a medal and DNS/DNF then I will hold the medal for you until you complete the distance at a subsequent Audax, after which you can collect. The next set of medal collections will be after the 100-year 300k in June when I’ll also be able to hand out the special 100-year 300k medals too. The ‘chicken’ medals as they seem to be colloquially called by many of you….

Singapore AUDAX 2022 calendar

  • 200k May 6th-16th ‘return to Johor’
  • 300k June 11th-19th 100-year anniversary
  • 400k & 200k July 9th-17th
  • 600k & 300k August 13th-22nd

I will host at least one more 400k and 600k before October 31st to give all riders more chances to both qualify for Super Randonneur status and to achieve their desired distance during the PBP 2023 pre-qualification period.

I will arrange a bag drop for the 600k, whereby you can drop a bag off before the start, then access your bag at the hotel which will be at approximately the 375k point where it’s advisable to get a few hours sleep before heading back out again. You will be able to collect your bag at the finish.

Brevet Rules

Please note, to ensure your ride is homologated with Paris the following are not allowed;

1 – Riding part or all of the route with riders who are not registered

2 – Having assistance from a support vehicle during the brevet – I will arrange a bag drop during the 600k but not a support car.

Ride Groups

Due to the limitation of a maximum of 10 riders per group in Singapore we will never be able to go back to holding a mass start this side of the border. Given we now get 200+ riders it also wouldn’t make sense for us all to arrive at the border at one time, hence the option to complete the ride over a 9 day period to eliminate this bottle neck.

I am conscious that many of you would like to group up with other riders to tackle the brevets. Audax rides are a great chance to meet riders and make new friends. I’ve made some great friends on Audax rides over the years and it’s important we ensure this can continue. I’m working on several ideas and will make an announcement soon as to how we can make this happen in a safe and logistically manageable way.

See you on the road
Dan – Singapore AUDAX
