The next AUDAX ride is the AUDAX 400km on March 17, 2018. You can sign up here
The AUDAX 400km is the most difficult of the series. You have 27 hours to complete the full distance. You may wonder why it is harder than the 600km but many dedicate the full weekend to the 600km distance…the 400km is usually completed in less than a day but that is really a full day in the saddle. This is the first 400km of the 2018 season so it is also a chance from some of the riders to earn the status of Super Randonneur. A Super Randonneur is a rider who has completed a 200, 300, 400 and 600km ride in a single season. Given we had 21 people do a 600km on January 4-5th this year already there surely will be a few SRs after this ride.
The ride is essentially the same as the AUDAX 300km route and an additional 100km in Singapore at the end. Last time we did the 400km we tried to do the first 100km in Singapore before entering Malaysia but we actually lost a few riders due to blowing up or to mentally not being able to cross the border. This time we will do the hard parts in Malaysia first and return to Singapore most likely before dinner time so you can grab some dinner from a variety of choices. The first 115km is relatively flat and has some nice roads from Pekan Nanas. The hills start at KM 120 and it is advised to take it a bit easy through the hills and arrive at lunch with some legs left. At KM 160 there is a town called Kluang which has a variety of food choices for lunch. After that you push on to Kulai where you will hit the Kulai hills at approximately KM 240.
Speeds
It is always good to pace yourself and don’t get carried away with faster riders. 400km is a long distance so it is recommended that you pace yourself and keep the breaks / stops short.
What to bring?
You need to bring whatever it takes to get you over the border into Malaysia. Passports, EP, PR, etc. In addition, you will be spending a lot of time in Malaysia so it is good to bring some Malaysian Ringgit to buy things to eat and drink. The AUDAX 400km is basically the same route for the AUDAX 300km with the final 100km to be finished in Singapore.
Make sure your bike is in good condition. It is usually a good idea to bring some spare tubes and maybe a tire for your riding group. Have good lights and wear clothes that are highly visible. It is also a good idea to bring some suntan lotion. Along the way you can get water and snacks but you should bring enough energy food/gels/bars to get you at least 100km.
When you have finished the 400km distance please send a screenshot to jeff@singaporeaudax.com so we can send the official results to Paris for homologation.
