Wow what a ride. Great people and many new faces in the group. For the most part the weather was accommodating until we reached the shores of Singapore and the rain came on down….and hard! Many of the riders were debuting the new AUDAX 2016 kits which was great to see. We rolled at 5;30 AM sharp with the first group arriving at Brewerkz just before 2pm. The rain in Singapore definitely slowed traffic and the riders down. Once again we took the new 200km Patrick Williams route which seemed to be appreciated and enjoyed by most of the riders. While the majority of riders stuck to and finished the route there were a few deviations from the norm on this AUDAX 200km. First time AUDAXer Gogo Sof and his wife (girlfriend, not sure) let the bunch go after a fast start in Singapore. Despite the fact, they managed to ride around in numerous circles in Singapore covering the distance of 200km!
With a giant smile on his FB post Gogo wins the Silk Smile Award for completing 200km and ending with a massive smile! Gogo and his wife win a pair of AUDAX Socks!
Inspiring riders to start and complete AUDAX rides is really what is all about. Many new faces have shown up on AUDAX rides over the past year and that really is attributed to the many great people we have doing these rides on a regular basis. Lawrence Loh has done a great job at getting new faces into the group. Lawrence wins the JFT AUDAX Spirit award for this ride! Lawrence will receive a medium new 2016 AUDAX Jersey.
Many times during the ride I would have sworn Dave ‘Lundy’ Lundberg was with us. While Lundy was busy crushing Ironman Texas this weekend we had a new Lundy….not American but a British version. The Lundy Worker Award definitely goes to Mike Hooper. After ordering a squadron of eight riders to ride hard for 50km in a chain gang formation, Mike then proceeded to tow (or drag) the group for the next 50km before we hit the Kulai hills. Mike then pulled away on the final push home and missed the turn and ended up doing an extra 5km….despite that, he was still the first finisher. He skipped Brewerkz as he had two swim races to attend later in the evening. Solid effort and definitely a well deserved award. Mike you get a pair of socks!
Thanks to all who joined…a solid group and all kinds of fun and stories. Next ride is the AUDAX 600km which will be slower but there will no doubt be lots of stories.
