Put down the beer and get on your bike!
The 600km ride is one of the nicest AUDAX rides. Designed by Patrick Williams, this route includes more than 3000m of climbing and there are some parts of the ride you feel like you are riding through Napa Valley California. You can download the .gpx and find the route here
Registration opens at 3:50am and we will roll at 4:30am sharp. The ride starts at Starbucks at United Square. We have tried almost every array of leaving times and this time tends to be the best for the shortest lines at the border. Once again we will have Hafiz for safety support. You can bring a small bag and put that in the security vehicle. Usually it is good to bring a spare kit, a tire, tools, food, and whatever you need to ride 600km. The cost of the ride is S$50 for Singapore AUDAX members and S$75 for non-members. Riders will have a total of 40 hours to complete the 600km distance. When you are done 600 KM or more then you can send the elapsed time with the Strava or similar link to jeff@singaporeaudax.com so we can send the results to Paris for homologation. To correct for any delays crossing the border we will allow a 2 hour allowance for the times or may adjust if the immigration lines are longer….hopefully not. Please register early so we know how many riders we will have.
Note that this is the last 600km before PBP so if you are doing PBP and did not do the one in January then you should do this one to register. In addition, it is another good training opportunity to push your training limits ahead of PBP. It is important to keep up the KMs as the 1227 km of PBP include 12000 meters of climbing!
Typically riders ride a long day one and stay in the city of Kluang for a few hours of rest, shower and food. Some riders keep on going all night long but that is up to the individual. Arriving in Kluang is at KM 385 approximately. There are plenty of hotels in Kluang to choose from and they are all pretty cheap. There are also a number of restaurants where you can get food that is not from your back pocket or a gel packet. The main stop in Kluang will be the Imperial Hotel. Since hotels are used only for a few hours it may be wise to pair up with someone in a twin bed room as usually riders typically shower, sleep for 1-2 hours then roll. Most of the hotels are 1-3 stars so don’t overthink the hotel.
Remember the ride is in Malaysia so you need to bring your passport, PR, EP, etc and whatever it takes to cross the border! It is also good to bring some Ringgit to buy stuff along the way. The security vehicle will have drinks and snacks but sometimes you may be on your own so it is best to be prepared.
